Alex Hale had been with the team since training camp of 2024

The Green Bay Packers have released their third player in the last couple of days, this time being kicker Alex Hale. Between these releases and the reported addition of receiver Will Sheppard, the Packers should have three more roster spots to fill before we get a training camp look at the team on Wednesday.

Hale joined Green Bay last training camp, when he replaced defensive end Kenneth Odumegwu as the team’s international player pathway program player. With Hale, an Australian national, gone, the Packers now have a vacancy for their free roll on their international exemption roster spot.

As a reminder, NFL rosters are made up of 90 men in the offseason, but that number can go up to 91 if teams choose to use the international exemption. During the regular season, a 16-man practice squad can go up to 17 if a spot is saved for an international player.

Keep a lookout for future roster transactions, as they are almost certainly coming soon.

Update:

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has reported that Hale hurt his eye while working outside of the facility, so he’s unable to practice right now. Silverstein hinted that the team doesn’t want starting kicker Brandon McManus to handle a full workload of kicks in training camp, which hints that a possible replacement kicker could be coming in — at least until Hale’s eye works properly.
