Earlier this week, the Green Bay Packers lost cornerback Micah Robinson, a 2025 draft pick, when the Tennessee Titans plucked Robinson off the Packers’ practice squad. This left the Packers with just five cornerbacks in practice, all members of the 53-man roster, including two — Bo Melton and Kamal Hadden — who had never played a snap of defense in a regular season game.

To backfill the position, Green Bay brought back Tyron Herring, who originally signed with the team as an undrafted rookie in April. Herring’s biggest moment in preseason action with the Packers was probably stopping Indianapolis Colts tight end Jelani Woods short of the goal line.

After Herring failed to make the 53-man roster at the cutdown deadline, he worked out with the New England Patriots, who eventually signed him to their practice squad. Herring actually replaced Corey Ballentine, who had previously started seven games for the Packers and was in Green Bay for part of training camp.

Herring was released from the Patriots’ practice squad two weeks ago. Since then, he had a workout with the Cleveland Browns, but he wasn’t signed by the team.

With Herring added, the Packers’ practice squad is now back at capacity, like their 53-man roster. The only available roster spot open is for Green Bay’s international exemption. Yesterday, the team worked out two international prospects, but the Packers have not signed one of them to fill the void that kicker Mark McNamee left behind.
