Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will be off the field for a few days following a procedure on his left thumb.
This isn’t to say that the Packers fanbase should be concerned, as team officials have confirmed that the minor surgery was precautionary and isn’t expected to affect the player’s Week 1 availability.
Team general manager Brian Gutekunst told reporters it was “a little procedure,” insisting that Love will be able to play in Week 1 and he should return to practice next week.
“You never want these guys to be out,” Gutekunst said, “but more importantly, he’ll be ready for Week 1. That’s the most important thing.”
Love was seen wearing a bandage over his left thumb in practice on Monday, sparking concern from reporters, having previously banged it up while being sacked.
He participated fully but made handoffs with his right hand, having previously handed the ball with his left.
The QB’s throwing ability hasn’t been impacted as he passes the ball with his right hand. He was also seen throwing a touchdown pass to wide receiver Savion Williams in red zone drills with the bandage on.
The Packers will have joint practices with the Indianapolis Colts this Thursday and play them in a preseason game on Saturday.
Love isn’t expected to participate in practice or the game after his thumb surgery, but should be back in training sometime after the game.
“We’re hoping to have him back next week,” Gutekunst said. “He shouldn’t miss any regular-season time.”
Jordan Love played 15 games for Green Bay last season, completing 63.1 percent of his passes for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 83 yards on 25 carries.
He was sacked 14 times.
