Packers QB coach to be offensive coordinator for all-star game

When long-time Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements (2006-2016, 2022-2024) retired after last season, head coach Matt LaFleur filled the vacancy by hiring Sean Mannion to the role. Mannion, who left Oregon State as a third-round pick and was the Beavers’ all-time passing leader, had previously played for LaFleur in 2017, LaFleur’s one season as the Los Angeles Rams’ offensive coordinator.

Mannion stuck around the league until 2023, and he was hired as a Packers offensive assistant for the 2024 season, his first year coaching. This year, he moved up to being an on-field coach for the first time in his career.

Now, the 33-year-old seems to be drawing attention from the league. The East-West Shrine Bowl announced its coaching staff for the 2026 edition of the game, and the West team’s offensive coordinator will be Mannion.

College all-star games are usually coached by a mix of NFL coaches, either retired coaches or young up-and-comers who serve in a role above the one they have at their current job. Mannion isn’t the first Packers coach to be invited to coach an all-star game, and the team has frequently brought up these hands-on experiences coaching draft prospects as opportunities for extra intel that lead to players’ selections to Green Bay.

At the moment, the following players with draftable grades on the consensus draft board are expected to play for Mannion’s West offense:

• #104 Skyler Bell, WR, UConn
  • Bell, a Wisconsin transfer, was an All-American in 2025.
• #126 Brian Parker II, OL, Duke
  • Parker was a right tackle for the Blue Devils in 2025, but is expected to get some looks at center at the next level, due to his arm length and weight. I took him in the fourth round in our Packers mock offseason.
• #144 Demond Claiborne, RB, Wake Forest
• #153 Eric Rivers, WR, Georgia Tech
• #157 Pat Coogan, OL, Indiana
  • Coogan is a center who transferred from Notre Dame. He was the MVP of Indiana’s Rose Bowl victory over Alabama.
• #166 Fa’alili Fa’amoe, OL, Wake Forest
  • Played right tackle for Wake Forest. He was a defensive lineman at Washington State until 2022, when he converted to right tackle there, too.
• #182 Ar’maj Reed-Adams, OL, Texas A&M
  • Most of Reed-Adam’s college career was played at guard, but he did play some right tackle at Kansas before his transfer to A&M. This year, he was a second-team All-American.
• #21o J.Michael Sturdivant, WR, Florida
  • Considering how much the Packers like heavy receivers in their offense, Sturdivant, expected to be 216 pounds, should be on their radar.
