Jaire Alexander won’t be rocking the Green Bay Packers uniform again.
The Green Bay Packers were apparently unable to find a team willing to pay the right price or agree to a restructured contract with their star cornerback.
The Packers informed Alexander that he was being released on Monday.
The cornerback was set to report to the Packers’ mandatory minicamp, which gets underway this week. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Packers were “open to moving him for the right price.”
Green Bay also considered keeping Alexander after being unable to facilitate a trade through the draft. They even offered Alexander a restructured contract but could not strike a deal, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
While the two-time Pro Bowler was once a strong defensive player for the Packers, injuries plagued his last two seasons, limiting him to only competing in 14 games over those two years.
Now that he is gone, Packers president Mark Murphy is seemingly taking shots at Jaire Alexander.
He admitted that Green Bay is somewhat “used to” playing without him because of those injuries.
“He has been a great player for us. Obviously, elite talent,” Murphy told WBAY’s Dave Schroeder on Monday.

“Unfortunately, just injured a lot. Unfortunately, that’s a big part of our game. … The reality is for like the last four years, about half of the games he’s been able to play, so we’ve kind of been used to it.”
In the end, injuries hampered Alexander’s final years in Green Bay.
The former All-Pro cornerback suffered a knee injury late in the week 8 win in Jacksonville last season. He would return two weeks later against the Bears before exiting before halftime.
Alexander has missed 14 games over the last two seasons.
Before his injuries set in, the Packers signed Alexander to a four-year, $84 million extension that included a record signing bonus for a defensive back.
