The Green Bay Packers went 1-1 against the Chicago Bears in the regular season, despite the fact that the Bears never held a lead over the team during regulation of either game. Conservatively, a million things had to go wrong in Chicago for the Packers to lose that game in overtime after holding a 13-3 lead with 11 minutes left to play.

Going into Sunday’s action, the Packers had nothing to play for in Week 18. They were locked into the seventh spot in the NFC. The only question was who was going to be the second seed in the conference, the team that would host them in the wild-card round next week.

There were three scenarios at play:

  • If the Bears beat the Detroit Lions, the Packers would get the Bears.
  • If the Bears lost to the Lions, but the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Washington Commanders, the Packers would get the Eagles.
  • If the Bears lost to the Lions and the Commanders beat the Eagles, the Packers would get the Bears.

Both Chicago and Philadelphia lost in their regular season finales, which means that Green Bay will taking their second trip to the Windy City this season. The Lions made a walk-off field goal, as Bears quarterback Caleb Williams fell short of breaking the franchise’s 4,000-yard season curse, while the Eagles, who rested some starters, were dropped by Washington’s third-string quarterback, Josh Johnson.

Welcome to the rubber match. This is what Packers fans have been begging for since that fluke Bears win in Chicago. We actually got it.
