If the opening line on the Green Bay Packers’ week 6 game holds up through kickoff next Sunday, it will be the team’s biggest point spread as a favorite in 13 years.
The Packers host the Cincinnati Bengals at Lambeau Field next Sunday afternoon, and a combination of home-field advantage and the Bengals’ abysmal injury and quarterback situation has left them in an awful spot. After losing 37-24 to the Detroit Lions in Cincinnati in week 5, the Bengals are on the wrong side of a spread of more than two touchdowns.
Today’s opening line from FanDuel sportsbook finds the Packers favored by a whopping 14.5 points, a remarkably large number for any NFL game in 2025. One must go back to 2012 to find the last time Green Bay was favored by a spread that large, when they were 16-point favorites for a home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 8. The Packers failed to cover in that game, but they did win 24-15 in a game that featured touchdowns by players named Dezman Moses and Guy Whimper.
Green Bay came close to matching this mark in a game last year, however. They were favored by an even 14 points in their week 16 game against the New Orleans Saints just before Christmas, and they covered that spread in a 34-0 shutout victory.
The massive expectation of a Packers win blurs over to the moneyline, where Green Bay has -1200 odds against the Bengals’ +750.
The Packers will also look to be the third team in recent weeks to put up 35 or more points on the Bengals, who have now allowed at least 27 points in four straight games after today’s game. The total points over/under number for next week’s contest is set at 43.5, with the books expecting a low-scoring performance out of Cincinnati — combined with the spread, this projects out to a general expectation that the Packers would win 27.5-13.
