Confirmation finally matched the fear in Green Bay. Micah Parsons’ torn ACL is a season-ender, but the star pass rusher made it clear he’s approaching rehab with resolve, writing that he’s “sidelined” but “not defeated,” while thanking the Packers and his teammates for their support.

Now the procedural step is official, too. As Adam Schefter reported on X, the Packers officially placed Parsons on injured reserve. With that move, there’s no more ambiguity about timelines, it cements that Green Bay will finish the season without the edge rusher it brought in to change the ceiling of the defense.

Parsons’ injury happened in Week 15, when he pulled up while rushing the quarterback and immediately grabbed his knee. The aftermath is exactly what the team has to live with now: no Parsons in the stretch run, no Parsons in any potential postseason scenario, and no easy replacement for a player who was producing like a centerpiece.

In his first 14 games with the franchise, Parsons posted 41 tackles, 26 quarterback hits, and 12.5 sacks, tied for the third-most sacks in the league. His 91.9 Pro Football Focus grade ranked third among 111 edge rushers. Those are not “next man up” numbers, they’re “rebuild the plan” numbers.

Green Bay did not pay a premium for him to be a luxury. The Packers traded Kenny Clark and two first-round picks to acquire Parsons, then signed him to a four-year, $188 million contract. The point was to have a game-changer in January, and now the defense has to find pressure and disruption by committee.

The same snap that took Parsons out also dinged the secondary. Rob Demovsky reported that safety Evan Williams suffered a sprained MCL on that play, and Williams said he realized Parsons was hurt only after seeing one trainer come to him while a crowd surrounded Parsons.

Parsons’ message promises he’ll “rise again.” The IR transaction makes the present reality unavoidable: Green Bay’s push forward starts without him.
