Packers News: Christian Watson to return to practice on Wednesday

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur stated in his pre-practice press conference on Wednesday that receiver Christian Watson, who left Sunday’s game with a chest injury and was taken out of the stadium in an ambulance, is expected to practice today. The Packers will run a modified practice on Wednesday after having a walkthrough on Tuesday.

After the game, Watson’s father took to social media to tell the world that the receiver was “fine.” It sure sounds like he had a pretty good source.

LaFleur said earlier in the week that all of Green Bay’s injuries, outside of Micah Parsons’ ACL tear, are more day-to-day injuries that will be game-time decisions for the team. Beyond Watson, LaFleur also mentioned that defensive end Lukas Van Ness (foot) and receiver Dontayvion Wicks (ankle), who were non-participants on Tuesday, are expected to suit up in practice today, too.

That should leave the following players as non-participants:

  • RB Josh Jacobs (knee/ankle)
  • RB MarShawn Lloyd (calf/hamstring – IR)
  • TE Josh Whyle (concussion)
  • RT Zach Tom (back/knee)
  • DE Micah Parsons (knee – soon to be on IR)
  • S Evan Williams (knee)

Parsons has yet to be placed on an injury list as of yet, but he will be taken off the 53-man roster whenever the team needs to make a move. The Packers only have a week left to call up either running back MarShawn Lloyd (it’s not looking good), defensive end Collin Oliver and/or defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. from injury lists before their practice windows expire and they revert to season-ending injured reserve.

Depending on the status of Josh Jacobs and Josh Whyle, though, Green Bay might need that extra roster spot to call up a practice squad running back and/or tight end. Keep an eye on those positions as we inch toward kickoff against the Chicago Bears.
