Micah Parsons is committed to helping the Green Bay Packers win a Super Bowl, but he is also motivated to achieve his personal goals. One of those includes sacking the Super Bowl 47 MVP, which he can potentially do this Sunday afternoon in Huntington Bank Field.
“Man, really just getting after {Joe} Flacco,” the multi-time All-Pro edge rusher said ahead of Green Bay’s road matchup versus the Cleveland Browns, per The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. “I haven’t had Flacco yet. I need him. I want him. It’s time to go get him.”
When Parsons sets his sights on a quarterback, that often spells trouble. The 26-year-old has 54 sacks in 65 career NFL games, but he has not had the opportunity to bring down the 40-year-old Browns signal-caller. Until now, that is.
Flacco will need to be extra aware when facing off against a premium pass-rusher like Parsons. He has been sacked two times each in Cleveland’s first two games, and if that happens again in Week 3, one would assume that the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year will be one of the players who gets his hands on the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year. For the sake of Flacco, and the game plan, the Browns are surely preparing for Parsons and the Packers’ defensive line.
That may not make a difference, though. When it comes to getting to the QB, the four-time Pro Bowl selection is among the best in the NFL. Browns juggernaut Myles Garrett can boast the same, having accumulated 106.0 sacks in 119 games. They say iron sharpens iron, so both defensive game-wreckers should be particularly dialed-in for this upcoming clash.
The Packers have big plans this year, and in order to fulfill them, these are the type of trap games a team must secure. They should know better than to look past two-time Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski. Green Bay should visualize nothing else beyond a Week 3 victory. The same should be said for Micah Parsons. Taking down Joe Flacco, however personally satisfying, will increase the likelihood that the squad leaves Cleveland with a 3-0 record.
