The Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl odds took a major hit after Micah Parsons suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 15. Green Bay fell to 9-4-1 with a gut-wrenching loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday. The Packers now make a push for the playoffs without their most important defensive player.
The team officially placed Parsons on injured reserve on Wednesday. But defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is already excited for the All-Pro pass rusher’s return.
“Just wait til you see how hard he works to come back, how fast he probably comes back,” Hafley said per The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. “If I were a betting man I’d bet that he comes back even better and probably breaks the [NFL] sack record next year… That’s the confidence I have in him.”
Hafley’s belief in Parsons is telling. Particularly since it’s unclear what the sack record will be next year. Myles Garrett is on the verge of breaking the record this season. The Cleveland Browns edge rusher is up to 21.5 sacks. Garrett now has three games to surpass the single-season record of 22.5, shared by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt.
It’s also unclear when Parsons will be able to return to the Packers. He tore his ACL in December and could miss the beginning of next season. Robert Griffin III believes Parsons should sit out 2026 entirely. The former quarterback stressed that it takes longer than the projected nine-month recovery timeline to feel like yourself again.
It’s a difficult situation for Parsons and the Packers. “I just have so much respect for the guy and I’m sad for the guy… Unfortunately, injuries are a part of this game. And they’re hard. It’s upsetting to that person, it’s upsetting to the team and I certainly feel for Micah,” Hafley added.
