Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur hasn’t contacted Aaron Rodgers since the Green Bay legend signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he “totally anticipated” playing against him this fall.
“It’ll be a great challenge for us. I’m sure he’ll be telling everybody all our signals, so we’ll probably have to be playing that mind game a little bit,” LaFleur said, via Ryan Wood of USA Today.
LaFleur coached Rodgers in Green Bay from 2019-2022. Rodgers won NFL MVP in back-to-back years in 2020-2021.
Packers quarterback Jordan Love also recently weighed in on the Steelers’ signing of Aaron Rodgers. It’s not something that surprised Love, but he’s happy for his mentor and former teammate.
He also looks forward to facing Rodgers in Week 8 when the Steelers and Packers square off on Sunday Night Football at Acrisure Stadium. It will be Rodgers’ first meeting against his former team since departing Green Bay after the 2022 season.
“I was excited for A-Rod,” Love said in an interview with Jason Wilde of ESPN Milwaukee. “I don’t feel like I was too surprised. There were a lot of rumors going on the whole offseason about him going to the Steelers. I was excited for him that he was going to keep playing. It’s going to be fun, it’s going to be awesome. I’m excited for it. I can’t wait to be on different sides meeting up and I know we’ll talk pregame and things like that and hopefully we can exchange jerseys after.”
Rodgers can become one of five quarterbacks in NFL history to beat all 32 teams with a win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 8 at Acrisure Stadium. It will be Rodgers’ first meeting against his former team since departing Green Bay after the 2022 season.
The storylines for the Steelers-Packers showdown on Sunday Night Football will be endless.
With a win over the Packers, Rodgers will join Favre, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees on the all-time list of QBs to beat all 32 NFL teams.
Rodgers is on the verge of breaking several NFL milestones in his 21st season. He needs just 1,337 passing yards to surpass Ben Roethlisberger for the fifth-most all-time, and needs six passing touchdowns to surpass Favre for fourth-most all-time.
Team president Art Rooney II revealed that the Steelers will wear new alternate uniforms and a new alternate helmet against the Packers in Week 8.
“We are going to have a new throwback uniform this year, and with a new helmet to go with it,” Rooney said in his statement released on the Steelers’ official website.
“We’re planning to wear our new throwbacks for the Packers game on Sunday night, Oct. 26. It’ll be fun to wear our throwbacks against one of the older franchises in the league – that just seems to be appropriate. We’ll be doing our Color Rush uniforms late in the year. I think we’re going to do it for the Monday night game on Dec. 15 against...
