The Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League probably kept a close eye on the Green Bay Packers’ preseason games, if their recent transactions are any sign of their scouting efforts.
On Wednesday, the Stallions reportedly agreed to sign running back Tyrion Davis-Price, who spent two weeks with the Green Bay Packers during the preseason. The former third-round pick was signed when running MarShawn Lloyd suffered an injury this summer.
The Stallions didn’t stop there, though, as on Monday they signed receiver Julian Hicks, who was a member of the Packers’ 2024 practice squad. Hicks was just behind Mecole Hardman, the last receiver on the team who missed the cut when the roster shrank from 91 players to 53 players, on the 2025 preseason depth chart.
For whatever reason, Green Bay chose not to re-sign either Davis-Price or Hicks to their practice squad after cutdowns. The Packers’ current practice squad running back is Pierre Strong Jr., who was picked up in Week 2, and their receivers are Isaiah Neyor, Will Sheppard and Jakobie Keeney-James, all undrafted rookies. Neyor and Sheppard were behind Hicks in the pecking order this summer, while Keeney-James was signed by Green Bay in Week 4.
He wasn’t recently a Packer, but the Stallions also signed linebacker Michael Barrett on Saturday, who was brought in to Green Bay in November of 2024 and was elevated for Week 18 action for the Packers last year. Barrett wound up signing with the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason, where he was waived during roster cutdowns, as Green Bay didn’t bring Barrett back on a reserve-futures contract, which they typically sign practice-squad players to.
The Stallions have had a lot of success as a spring league team. They won the USFL championship in 2022 and 2023 and also the first UFL championship in 2024. Last year, though, the 7-3 squad lost in the conference finals to the Michigan Panthers, marking their first non-title season since the franchise was born.
Davis-Price, Hicks and Barrett will join other former Packers like quarterback Alex McGough, receiver Amari Rodgers and tight end Jace Sternberger on the 2025 team. If AT&T Stadium isn’t Lambeau South, Protective Stadium is making its case.
