Anthony Campanile was Green Bay’s LB coach/run game coordinator in 2024

Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Anthony Campanile has been a hot name for a while. Last offseason, he interviewed with both the Miami Dolphins — where he coached in 2023 — and the New York Giants for their defensive coordinator openings. Those teams went in different directions, leading to Campanile's signing to Green Bay with the title “linebackers coach/running game coordinator” under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.

While the Packers’ linebackers weren’t great in 2024, they did show improvement, relative to their investment. Former first-round pick Quay Walker clearly progressed around mid-season this year, despite dealing with injuries. Second-round rookie Edgerrin Cooper went from a raw project to an impact player in his first season in the NFL. Isaiah McDuffie and Eric Wilson still have their physical limitations, but there’s little coaching can do to solve that.

Campanile’s performance this year interested at least one franchise in digging into him as a defensive coordinator prospect. The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Tuesday that they have completed an interview with Campanile for their opening under new head coach Liam Coen.

At the moment, the Packers have a vacancy at quarterbacks coach, though, that very well could be going to Luke Getsy, and defensive line coach. Green Bay could also be looking at hiring a new offensive coordinator, as Adam Stenavich drew interest for the Chicago Bears’ head coaching opportunity and the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator job before those gigs were filled. Currently, Houston Texans, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers still need to hire play-calling offensive coordinators for the 2025 season. Keep an eye out for Stenavich in those spots.

On top of that, the Atlanta Falcons previously interviewed defensive passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley — who was the Los Angeles Chargers’ defensive coordinator in 2024 — for their defensive coordinator opening this offseason, which ultimately went to Jeff Ulbrich. The Jaguars, Raiders and Jets are still looking to fill their defensive coordinator positions, so there’s a chance the Packers end up with more vacancies on their staff as the coaching carousel continues to churn.
