Rarely do sportsbooks lock in an NFL team with equal odds on either side of their win total projection. There’s usually a little bit of fudging on the odds for a team’s over/under, skewing a bit in one direction or the other. However, that’s not the case with the Green Bay Packers heading into 2025, as at least one sportsbook has the team’s win total set squarely with equal odds for the over and the under.
As of Thursday, FanDuel Sportsbook has Green Bay set for 9.5 wins for the upcoming season. But what’s notable is that the book has the Packers set for -110 odds for both sides of the bet, indicating that they think the probability of the team finishing with 10 or more wins is exactly the same as them ending up with 9 or fewer.
Wondering which side of that total to lean towards? One place to look is recent history. The Packers went 11-6 last season, finishing as a top-ten team in points and yards on both offense and defense. However, the 2023 squad went 9-8 but still made the playoffs, earning a victory in the Wild Card round that season instead.
Maybe analytic projections are more your speed. Austin Mock from The Athletic has the Packers projected for 9.8 wins this season, which ties them for the fourth-best mark in the NFC. That suggests that the over would be the better option. (Notably, the Packers have the third-best Super Bowl win probability in Mock’s system, behind only the Eagles and Lions.)
Or how about a game-by-game breakdown? NFL.com did that this week, with two writers (including noted Bears fan and Packers hater Adam Rank) looking at every game across the NFL. Both of these writers have Green Bay hitting the over with double digits, though Rank has the Bears sweeping the Packers and Green Bay going 3-6 down the stretch after a 7-1 start.
A 10-7 season should be enough to get the Packers into the postseason, especially with teams like the Vikings and Lions expected to be among the likeliest candidates to drop wins off their 2024 totals. Packers fans should certainly hope for the over, though the team’s health will be a significant determining factor in the total.
