Overreactions: Saints vs. Seahawks

The New Orleans Saints were completely outplayed by the Seattle Seahawks 44-13 on Sunday at Lumen Field in Week 3 of the 2025 NFL season. Here is an overreaction from this weekend’s matchup:

Kellen Moore lasts just one year as Saints HC

With New Orleans starting the season winless and most recently being embarrassed by the Seahawks on the road, I’ve seen a number of fans calling for first-year head coach Kellen Moore’s job after just three games, but here’s why I think that’s an overreaction:

Since arriving in the Big Easy, Moore has completely changed the culture. Veterans such as Juwan Johnson, Erik McCoy, Davon Godchaux and Kendre Miller have praised how their new head coach ran his first offseason program—saying it was the healthiest they’ve felt, the vibes were as high as they’ve been in years and that it was the best training camp they had ever experienced.

To put into perspective why patience is important with a first-year head coach, consider Detroit Lions HC Dan Campbell. He began his tenure with a 3-13-1 season but followed it with a 9-8 record, then 12-5, and eventually a franchise-record 15-2 season in 2024. Sometimes, it simply takes a little patience for a coach to put all the pieces together.

I think Moore’s play calling has been solid, though there have definitely been some time management issues. I also feel the decision-making on when to go for it on fourth down could be a bit sharper, but these are the kinds of mistakes that are expected to improve over time.

What I’ve really been paying attention to, though, is how the team has remained united during this rough patch. At this point last year, the locker room would likely have been in shambles, but Kellen Moore has instilled faith and confidence in his players, giving them the belief that they can compete each week—and that’s significant.
