Another roster spot is opened up after an interesting move.
The New Orleans Saints have not been shy about making moves and acting quickly when they see an issue on the roster or an upgrade available. This could involve signing a replacement for someone no longer with the team or exploring upgrades on the open market. To make these moves, the Saints need to open up roster spots and on yesterday, it was announced that offensive tackle Josh Ball was released, per Nick Underhill.
With a roster spot now open, the Saints can bring in another player who may make an immediate impact on the roster. Some names that come to mind are WR Keenan Allen, CB Asante Samuel Jr., and TE Noah Fant.
It is important to note that this move could have also been more about the current players on the roster than the free agents available. Releasing a potential depth piece at a vital position on the roster is surprising, but the Saints may have a vision for one of their younger options.
OT Josiah Ezirim was a 7th-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft with potential. He was labeled as a massive projected coming out of college, which is why Ezirim was selected in the 7th round, but there was still a chance he could become a starting tackle in the league. With Josh Ball’s release, Ezirim will now have a bigger role in practice, which could hint at some positive development in his young career.
