Pride of Detroit Pride of Detroit

The Detroit Lions have several lovable players. Who is your current favorite?

With the sudden retirement of center Frank Ragnow, Detroit Lions fans have lost not only a great player, but one of the more beloved people on the team’s roster.

The good news is, by design, the Lions have been accumulating a ton of players like Ragnow over the past five years: extremely talented on the field and an inspiration off it. General manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell don’t just value football talent, they place a high priority on good, hard-working people.

So while the Lions have lost one of the best examples of that in Ragnow, there are many other pillars of the team and community still here. There are so many players that are easy to root for.

Today’s Question of the Day is a simple one:

Who is your favorite current Detroit Lions player?

My answer: It’s great that this is a difficult question to answer. What I look for in a favorite player is someone who is arguably among the best at their position, while also bringing something intangible to the table—be it leadership on the field, an entertaining personality off of it, or a player heavily involved in the community.

Penei Sewell immediately jumps to mind. He’s arguably the best player on the team, and his intense personality caught my heart the moment he stepped up fearlessly to Aaron Donald as a rookie.

Ultimately, he’s my choice, but players like Kerby Joseph, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Aidan Hutchinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Jared Goff are all not too far behind.
