With all four teams appearing to be trending in the right direction, which Detroit team do you think has the best odds to win a championship first?
It seems like it wasn’t that long ago when we would consistently see those depressing graphics on Twitter and other forms of social media. You know which ones I am talking about—the ones where some clever person (probably in the state of Minnesota or Wisconsin) would slap together the current records of all four Detroit sports teams in order to make a goofy joke.
However, I can happily say that those days are now behind us as a fan base, as each of the four teams appear to be on an upward trajectory.
First we have the Detroit Lions who just capped off their third winning season in a row with a 15-2 regular season record, and have firmly established themselves as one of the best organizations in the NFL.
Next we have the Detroit Pistons, led by All-Star point guard Cade Cunningham. After a strong first half of the season, the Pistons are currently sitting in the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, and have a real shot at hosting some playoff games this spring at Little Caesars Arena.
Then we have the Detroit Tigers who will be looking to build on what was a fun postseason ride in 2024, and the Detroit Red Wings who have looked much better (7-2-1 in their last 10 games) since making a midseason coaching change.
That brings us to today’s Question of the Day:
Answer: I am still going with the boys in Honolulu Blue. The recent track record tells us that they are likely the closest, even if the NFL has the most year-to-year variance of any of the four major american sports leagues.
Still, the Lions were on the doorstep of a Super Bowl appearance in 2023, and were widely regarded as the best team in the NFL in 2024 before injuries took their toll later in the season. It’s a tricky formula in professional football, but with coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes at the helm, they should have a shot at competing for a title on an annual basis.
