It doesn’t take a football expert to understand the Chicago Bears have an issue on both sides of the ball across the offensive and defensive lines. Their defensive line lacks depth. Their offensive line lacks an interior.

Clearly, the Bears will focus on the trenches in free agency, and they’ll almost certainly sign quality guys on both sides of the football. However, as we’ve seen with the Philadelphia Eagles, depth across those fronts is also important.

Question of the Day: Will you be angry if the Bears don’t draft trenches at 10?

The Chicago Bears have other holes on the roster. They could use some help at safety, they need a better running game, they could use more help at tight end, and assuming they don’t re-sign Keenan Allen, they’ll need a third wide receiver.

Could the Bears draft someone who isn’t across the offensive or defensive line? Absolutely. Should they?

My answer: Absolutely not. I would be borderline furious if the Bears selected someone who doesn’t play across the offensive or defensive line. I know some fans want Ashton Jeanty if he’s there at 10. I get it. Jeanty is a great player, and the Bears need to improve their running game, especially under Ben Johnson.

But this running back class is outstanding. There are going to be feature running backs taken in the third and fourth rounds this year. The class is deep. Taking a running back at 10, even if it’s Jeanty, is a poor value. The Bears must focus on the trenches at ten. They must.

They could spend their first-round pick on an edge or defensive tackle and draft some help on the interior offensive line on day two. Nobody would complain if they spent their first-round pick on the offensive line, it’s a huge need.

Take an edge. Take an interior defensive linemen. Take a tackle. Take a guard even. I don’t care, just address the trenches with that pick. If they select a running back, that’s going to be a process I will have a hard time getting behind.

What do you say Bears fans? Is it trenches or bust? Or would you be okay if they selected someone like Ashton Jeanty? Sound off in the comments section with your opinion!
