Mike Vrabel seems headed to the Patriots, so if the Bears don’t land Ben Johnson, who do you want as the head coach?

The Chicago Bears reportedly have 16 names on their head coaching candidate list. The two names that the Chicago Bears fans keep talking about are Ben Johnson and Mike Vrabel. Many signs are pointing to Vrabel heading to the New England Patriots and with Ben Johnson, he’s taking three interviews other than the Chicago Bears so you never know if the Bears can land the plane and bring Johnson to Halas Hall.

Question of the Day: If the Bears don’t hire Mike Vrabel or Ben Johnson, who would you want them to hire as the next coach of the Bears?

I’ve had plenty of Bears fans in my mentions the last few days discussing the other options. After the top two names, there are plenty of names that Bears fans want. I’ve heard Liam Coen (who may not even be on their list), Joe Brady, Kliff Kingsbury, Brian Flores, and I’ve even seen a David Shaw. But who do I think is the right guy for the job?

Answer: If Pete Carroll were about 7 or 8 years younger, he might be number two on my list, but I can’t say that my top choice after Johnson is a coach who will be 74 years old at the start of the 2025 season.

I’ve landed on Todd Monken as my second favorite choice after Johnson. Monken is 58, which is a little older than I would prefer, but at that age, he could easily coach the team for 10 to 15 years for all or most of Caleb ’Williams' career if he’s the right guy for the job.

Why do I like Monken? I think he’s an enthusiastic coach. I think he’s a young 58 with plenty of energy that I think despite age, he can resonate with a roster of players mostly in their 20s.

Monken has been a coach for over 30 years. He was a head coach at the college level. He’s also been a wildly successful offensive coordinator at both the collegiate level (at Georgia when they were winning titles), currently with the Baltimore Ravens, and previously with the Tampa Bay Bucs.

I think Monken has been around enough strong coaches to know how to lead a locker room, I think he has the offensive mind that can develop Caleb Williams, and I think he just might be the right guy for the job (if they don’t land Ben Johnson).

What do you say Bears fans? Do you agree with Bill? Is Todd Monken the right guy for the job? Give your opinion below in the article comments section!
