According to CBS NFL insider Jonathan Jones, the six teams playing on the 25th are wearing the patches as a way to promote its three NFL Christmas games.

The three games on Thursday are: Commanders vs. Dallas Cowboys, Vikings vs. Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs vs. Broncos. Obviously, the league expected these games to have more significant playoff implications at the time the schedule was released.
