The Dallas Cowboys are on the cusp of training camp. Let’s break down some position battles and make some predictions for camp. Let’s start with none other than the QB position.

Prediction – Sam Howell will win the QB battle behind Dak Prescott

Of course, at this stage, the quarterback position in Dallas’ camp isn’t about whether Dak Prescott wins the job. It’s about who will be the backup QB behind Prescott should he go down for any period of time. It ahs been noted that since 2020 Prescott has missed five or more games every other season. He played all 17 games last season. We’re not saying Prescott is going down, but if that pattern holds, he could miss time in 2026.

If that ends up being the case, the Cowboys are going to need somebody solid to step up into Prescott’s place, and at this point, Sam Howell is just flat-out the better option.

Howell has actual starting experience, which makes him not only the safer option, but his scrappy play – think back to that week eight of 2023 when he led the Commanders against the Eagles – also elevates him to the caliber of quarterback needed to run the offense if Prescott were to miss time. Howell’s stats don’t jump out at you, he sports a 5-13 career record as a starter with a 62.6 completion percentage and has thrown more interceptions than TDs (23-22), but he has never played on an offense this talented with the weapons at his disposal in his career.

Howell’s experience and determination will stand out in camp, and it will give him the edge over Joe Milton III, who is talented in his own right but only has 112 snaps to his credit in his NFL career.

Okay BTB. Do you agree, or are you camp Milton? Hit the comments and let us know.
