The New York Jets hired Aaron Glenn as the next head coach of the franchise and the hire seems to be going over quite well both amongst Jets fans and the NFL world at large. Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Reggie Wayne, for example — one of the iconic NFL wide receivers of the 2000s — was recently full of praise for Glenn.
In a post on social media, Reggie Wayne — who was a seven-time Pro Bowler and one-time Super Bowl champion in 13 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts — gave Aaron Glenn credit for changing the way he approach the game as a “young pup.” Wayne was responding to a video of Glenn sternly answering reporters’ repeated questions about quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Glenn was drafted by the New York Jets in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft and was then selected by the Houston Texans in the 2002 expansion draft. Glenn would play for the franchise for the next three seasons, making the Pro Bowl in 2002. Perhaps having to face-off against Glenn during his time on the Texans from 2002 to 2004 is what Wayne, drafted by the Colts in 2001, is referencing, as the pair were never on the same team nor the same coaching staff.
During his time in the league, however, Wayne was the focal point of one of the most efficient offenses in the history of the league, making his praise of Glenn’s impact on his approach quite meaningful. It’s certainly something Jets fans will want to hear as they look to Glenn to break the team’s current 14-year-long playoff drought, the longest in the four major American sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL).
This guy made me change my approach of the game as a young pup… #Respect #Congrats https://t.co/iie6NcYG8B

Looking through Reggie Wayne’s career, his first season with more than 1,000 yards came in 2004 (he had 77 catches for 1,510 yards and 12 touchdowns), which came after two seasons of matching up against Glenn and the Texans twice a year. Beginning in 2004, Wayne would then go on to have seven consecutive seasons (and eight out of nine) with at least 77 catches and 1,000 yards.
As for what Glenn’s answer has been to the routine Aaron Rodgers questions, he said that he’s spoken with the quarterback and will evaluate what’s best for the entire roster with new general manager Darren Mougey in the coming weeks.
