With around one-third of National Football League teams embracing male cheerleaders, the league has faced heavy backlash from social media.
The Los Angeles Rams made history in 2018 by allowing two males to cheer. Since then, the number of male cheerleaders has steadily grown.
The New Orleans Saints will reportedly include 12 men, while the Baltimore Ravens have as many as 19.
Legendary British swimmer and Olympic silver medalist Sharron Davies, who has criticized transgender athletes’ participation in women’s sports, does not see an issue with what is going on in the NFL.
“I’m all for this,” the 62-year-old broadcaster wrote on X. “Us females cannot have it every which way, if we want equality it must go both ways.”
I’m all for this. Us females cannot have it every which way, if we want equality it must go both ways. Absolutely great to see male cheerleaders & recently male synchronised swimmers at our world champs. Respect & opportunity to be as feminine or masculine as you want in safety https://t.co/P5FAY0v5NR

Not everybody was a fan of what she said.
“This is a dance team- they are NOT cheerleaders- men have no place here. Stop trying to turn this into a “men can’t be feminine” argument. Or “if you don’t let them dance they’ll think they have to transition” 🙄. They can dance – be effeminate- but they DO NOT need to be included in every single thing women do,” one fan said.

“Women can not compete with men in sport. There are no female NBA or NFL players. Title nine is law for a reason–to protect women’s sports from being taken over and consumed by failed men,” a second person wrote about the male cheerleaders.
