An old video has resurfaced of Christian Wilkins kissing a former teammate on the neck, following a stunning report behind the Las Vegas Raiders’ decision to release the star defensive tackle.

Just one year after signing him to a four-year deal worth $110 million in free agency, the Raiders released Christian Wilkins from his contract last week. The club voided the final $35.2 million in guaranteed money on his deal, due to disagreements over how he was rehabbing his foot injury. The NFLPA countered with a filed grievance on his behalf.

Speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show” earlier today, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on an instance where Wilkins “playfully went to kiss a teammate on the top of his head,” and that the unnamed player “took offense to it.”

"From speaking to people inside the Raiders locker room…

They say that Christian Wilkins playfully went to kiss a teammate on the top of his head..

They say that player took offense to it and that's what everybody has been dancing around"@AdamSchefter #PMSLive https://t.co/das6W3HesB pic.twitter.com/MGfjATaiNh

The ML Football X/Twitter account posted a clip of Christian Wilkins (then with the Miami Dolphins) kissing former teammate Mike Gesicki on the neck after the Dolphins-New England Patriots Week 2, 2023 game. Gesicki and Wilkins were teammates in Miami from 2019 to 2022.

The Dolphins won that game 24-17, with Christian Wilkins tallying one sack, five solo tackles and one tackle for loss. Gesicki caught five passes for 33 yards in the loss.

Wilkins appeared in five games last season before suffering a season-ending foot injury. In those five contests, he logged two sacks and 17 combined tackles.

Christian Wilkins Had A Career Year In 2023 Before Landing Mega Deal With Raiders

The Raiders’ signing of Wilkins is a classic case of, “It seemed like a good idea at the time.” He logged a career-high nine sacks in his final season with the Dolphins, and you can’t blame Las Vegas for getting excited about the idea of Wilkins and Maxx Crosby rushing the passer together.

Then again, maybe the Raiders should have been a bit more cautious in paying superstar money to a player with one great season under his belt. Before 2023, Wilkins hadn’t topped 4.5 sacks in a season.
