The heaviest man up front looks to make a large impact this summer
The Buffalo Bills have an enviable amount of depth along the offensive line. General manager Brandon Beane clearly tries to create layers of talent up front, sometimes using those players in reserve as developmental pieces at a low cost, and sometimes flipping those backups for draft capital.
Another key component of Buffalo’s offensive line additions is ensuring that the team has players who can fill multiple roles and multiple positions up front. The Bills frequently cross-train their backups, which allows them to carry fewer offensive linemen on the active roster, and fewer still on the game day roster.
In today’s installment of “90 players in 90 days,” we discuss one of Buffalo’s cross-training offensive linemen vying for a spot on the 53-man roster.
Name: Mike Edwards
Number: 65
Position: OL
Height/Weight: 6’5”, 365 pounds
Age: 26 (27 on 11/10/2025)
Experience/Draft: 1; signed with Buffalo following the 2024 NFL Draft
College: Campbell University (NC)
Acquired: UDFA signing
Financial situation (per Spotrac): Edwards signed a reserve/future contract with the Bills at the conclusion of the 2024 NFL season. That two-year deal is worth $1,853,500 overall. For the 2025 season, Edwards carries a cap hit of $844,250 if he makes the roster. Buffalo will carry a dead-cap charge of $8,500 if he’s released.
2024 Recap: Edwards was one of two players named Mike Edwards trying to make the team last season, with the other being a veteran safety. The offensive lineman Mike Edwards saw time at both tackle and guard, though most of his time came on the interior.
Edwards played in Buffalo’s three preseason games, but he was released prior to the start of the regular season. Buffalo signed Edwards to the practice squad, which is where he remained for the duration of the season. He was not elevated for a game last year.
Positional outlook: Edwards theoretically is competing against every other offensive lineman given his listing as the sole “offensive lineman” designation on the roster. However, he has never played center.
David Edwards, Rush Reimer, O’Cyrus Torrence, and Connor McGovern—whom the Bills play at center—are the listed guards on the roster. Dion Dawkins, Alec Anderson, Spencer Brown, Richard Gouraige, Chase Lundt, Ryan Van Demark, Tylan Grable, and Travis Clayton are all listed at tackle.
2025 Offseason: Edwards is healthy and ready for training camp.
2025 Season outlook: There isn’t much of a chance for Edwards to make the 53-man roster that doesn’t involve significant injuries up front. Even then, the Bills may try to create salary cap space and add veterans before they trust the former Fighting Camels lineman with protecting quarterback Josh Allen.
If Edwards has a strong preseason, perhaps the Bills will keep him on the practice squad again and look to have him slide into a depth role next season. But for this year, he’s competing for a practice squad slot once again at best.
