Crossing Broad
It feels like it hasn’t been that long since we were punched in the gut by two different Philadelphia sports teams on the same day. On October 9th, the Phillies ended their season in one of the most excruciating ways possible, and the Eagles suffered an embarrassing divisional loss to the Giants.
It happened again, folks. Fast forward a month and a half, and another Philly sports team’s season has ended, and the Eagles suffered not only an embarrassing divisional loss, but one that was equally humiliating, if not more so, at AT&T Stadium against the Dallas Cowboys.
After bulldozing their way to a 21-0 lead with relative ease, the Eagles completely turtled – again – making mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake after mist… well, you get the picture. All they needed to do was make one play in the second half of the game, and they didn’t. Any positive play was erased by a dumb mistake. Any negative play was magnified by a dumb mistake. They couldn’t buy a way to a score. It was death by a thousand papercuts.
Make no mistake, everyone is to blame. I don’t understand this obsession with people thinking one aspect of the team is to blame for the loss. I hear it on social media, radio, and TV – paraphrasing – “If you don’t think XYZ is to blame for this, you’re sadly mistaken!” OK, but what if I think it’s more than just XYZ? Because it clearly is. Coaching was bad. Offensive play was bad once they decided they had the game won in the first half. It’s 2025 and we still have coaches locked into the 1990s mindset where 21-point leads don’t evaporate quickly. The Cowboys never quit. The Eagles quit as soon as the clock hit 11:32 in the second quarter. THE SECOND QUARTER. It’s as maddening a loss as we’ve seen under this regime.
Some have seen far worse losses. I certainly have. But we’re in the here and now of November, 2025. We shouldn’t be thinking about worse losses than the one on November 25th, 2025. We should be thinking if this team has any killer instinct the way they did one year ago. Where is it? What can we expect moving forward? Will offensive changes be made? As much as the defense let the Cowboys come back, they did more than enough to give the offense opportunities to seal the game. The offense did NOT want the smoke.
It’s embarrassing that we’ve been having this conversation for months now. It’s November. Fix it or find someone that will.

At least we had the Supporters’ Shield winner Philadelphia Union to fall back on, right? After escaping the first round with a PK win in Game 1 and a rout in Game 2, the Union hosted New York City FC in the Eastern Conference Semifinal right after the Eagles’ humiliating defeat. If no one else got us, at least the Union got us....
