With their season going haywire, the New York Giants named Jameis Winston the starting quarterback, as he replaces an injured Jaxson Dart. Of course, Winston got musical, starting his tenure as the starting quarterback with a Hamilton sing-along.
“I want fans to know that I’m going to do my best. Obviously, I’m going to have fun. I’m going to execute, have a surgical execution, and just play ball. This is something I have been doing since I was four years old,” Winston declared before singing the lyrics ‘greatest city in the world,’ referencing Hamilton the Musical.
It’s been a busy week in East Rutherford, New Jersey. First, Dart suffered a concussion and is unlikely to clear protocol. Then, the Giants fired Brian Daboll after the epic collapse against the Chicago Bears. They had already suffered the loss of star running back Cam Skattebo for the season. With Winston potentially starting, the Giants will see if they have a backup who is capable of taking the reins in the absence of Dart.
Winston was the first overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015. He played five full seasons with them, mostly with mixed results. His most memorable season was the 2019 campaign, when he threw for 5,109 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions, all three being career highs.
He has since been known as the only 30-30 quarterback in NFL history.
Winston then spent four years, mostly as a backup, with the New Orleans Saints. Last season, he played sparingly for the Cleveland Browns. This past offseason, Winston signed a one-year deal to play for the Giants. While many fans know him for his play on the field, some know him for his antics off the field. Notably, Winston had a crab incident when he was in college. Recently, fans have appreciated the veteran’s pregame speeches and his press conferences.
No matter how Winston does this week, his personality has won many fans over. The former Florida State Seminole will attempt to lead the Giants to victory as they host the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium.
