Bye weeks are never dull, especially if you’re a New York Jets fan.
A week after NY Jets owner Woody Johnson ripped starting quarterback Justin Fields, and mere days after being ripped by former NFL quarterback Alex Smith in the national media, a former Jets quarterback added his own story regarding the team’s owner.
Speaking on his “Travis Take Two” podcast, former NY Jets quarterback Jordan Travis (and his brother Devon) spoke about the current state of the team, and owner Woody Johnson.
“What Woody Johnson did with Justin Fields, be better,” began Devon Travis. “Speaking about your players publicly like that; you want to talk about losing a locker room? No head coach can fix that.”
That’s when Jordan, New York’s fifth-round selection in the 2024 NFL draft, shared his personal experiences with the team’s owner.
“That guy [Woody Johnson], no disrespect, there was things that were said to me,” began Travis. “Not obviously to that point [of how he did with Justin Fields], because I never got on the field to play, but about my leg. Like, just slick comments. I don’t know if he was trying to be slick about it, or you know how some older people, they just kind of say whatever comes to their mind.”
The 25-year old continued.
“It kind of made me feel a certain type of way. I told you about a few of them. ‘You ever gonna get healthy?’ I’m just like, ‘damn’. Not like, ‘How you feeling?’ Never. Never that. It was always comments like that. That kind of upset me, but it kind of rolled over my head, but [now] it makes sense.”

Travis, who played college football at Florida State, suffered a gruesome leg injury after leading his team to an 11-0 record in 2023. The injury was severe enough that the quarterback was expected to miss the entirety of his rookie year at the time the Jets drafted him.
Unfortunately, the quarterback announced in April that his rehab had been unsuccessful. Consequently, Travis was forced to retire from professional football.
As more stories continue to be released about NY Jets owner Woody Johnson, the tales do nothing to paint the ‘empathic’ owner that Johnson tried to describe himself as. Instead, they paint the picture of a cold, foolhardy decision-maker with no grasp on his surroundings.
