Notes from Day 8 of Seahawks training camp: Charles Cross out following surgery
Field Gulls Field Gulls

The pads came back on for the eighth day of training camp Thursday, but the biggest news had nothing to do with the on-field action.

The Seattle Seahawks were back on the practice field Thursday for Day 8 of training camp, with pads back on after a non-contact practice on Wednesday.

The biggest news of the day was, of course, the report from Albert Breer of SI that starting left tackle Charles Cross recently had surgery on a dislocated finger, but that he is expected back prior to the start of the regular season. Head coach Mike Macdonald touched on that subject after practice, noting that the team expects Cross back during the bye week between the final preseason game and Week 1 of the regular season.

Macdonald also provided a bit of insight on a vague timeline for the competition at right guard and center, where Olu Oluwatimi, Jalen Sundell, Christian Haynes, Anthony Bradford and potentially others, are competing for the starting spots.

Given that statement, it would appear that the competition may well run through the first two games of the preseason, with the starting line most likely to be known heading into the preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers on August 23.

For those looking for insight on the competition as it played out in practice, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times was courteous enough to provide some details.

And for some other quick observations from others from the practice.

And now it’s on to Friday.
