Notes: Dan Campbell talks how special Detroit is as a sports town
Pride of Detroit Pride of Detroit

Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell joined the LiucciCast and talked about everything from their time at Texas A&M to Campbell’s love of the Lions’ fanbase.

Detroit Lions’ coach Dan Campbell is a popular guy these days. Just a few days ago, he joined 96.7 am in Dallas to discuss how much he loves being in Detroit. We love you too, Dan.

And while he still has some free time before training camp kicks off for Detroit later this month, he jumped on, “The LiucciCast,” hosted by Billy Liucci over on the TexAgs YouTube channel.

Early on in the show, Liucci lets viewers and listeners know that he and Campbell are close, and you can certainly tell. Campbell, who is typically very comfortable talking to whoever, seemed especially at home talking with his old friend. The two talked about a ton of different subjects in the nearly hour-long episode. From their time together at Texas A&M, to Campbell’s coaching and playing journey that led to him to Detroit.

“You go to Detroit right now, and it’s in the building, in the tunnels, it’s whoever is getting on and off the elevator,” said Liucci of the feeling in the city after the first playoff win back in 2023.

“It means a lot you know, and I have said this before, but I had my eyes open to this place when I played here,” said Campbell. “Oh my god, this is a sleeping giant. This could be one of the best places ever to come and play and be a part of this. They love their Detroit Lions, they love sports. It’s just waiting. If you could just get everything aligned properly, bring in the right pieces, the right people—this could be something special.”

If you have the time, I highly recommend giving the entire interview a listen or watch. You can watch the entire episode right here.

And now, onto the rest of today’s notes:

  • Congrats to Lions’ rookie guard Miles Frazier on his recent engagement.

  • One of my favorite moments from the series right here.

  • Lions’ rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa joined, “Up & Adams,” with host Kay Adams to discuss his Lambeau Leap aspirations in Week 1.

  • More content from Lions’ All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and running back Craig Reynolds’ trip to Germany.
