One of the more notable players cut by the New England Patriots on Tuesday was veteran safety Marcus Epps.

Epps didn’t take long to find another team, as NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported late Wednesday night that the 29-year-old was rejoining the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Reunion: Veteran safety Marcus Epps is signing with the #Eagles, per sources,” Pelissero wrote on X. “Epps played for Philadelphia from 2019-2022 and started in Super Bowl LVII. Now, he returns as a veteran presence in a young secondary for the defending champs.”

The Minnesota Vikings selected Epps in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and he split his rookie campaign between the Vikings and Eagles. Epps played just 110 defensive snaps and 188 more on special teams during his rookie season before his playing time increased over the last few years.

He had a career-high two interceptions with Philadelphia during the 2020 campaign and posted career bests in tackles (94), tackles for loss (four) and passes defended (six) in the 2022 season. Epps added a team-leading 13 tackles across three playoff games that year as well.

The Wyoming product spent the 2023 and 2024 campaigns with the Las Vegas Raiders but was limited to three games before suffering a torn ACL in Week 3. Epps signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Patriots in March.

Following his release by the Patriots, a reporter asked head coach Mike Vrabel if the team granted requests from players who asked for their release.

Vrabel responded, “I don’t know who you’re referring to, I guess, specifically” and the reporter said he was talking about Epps and veteran wideout Kendrick Bourne.

“That’s news to me,” Vrabel said. “I think we just, again, try to put the roster together. guess when it doesn’t work out, you break up with somebody, your girlfriend doesn’t want to be with you, and then you say, ‘Well, I don’t want to be with you either.’ I’m not going to get into all that.”

When he was pressed on the issue, the first-year leader added, “I just said I’m not going to get into it. We’re not going to go back and forth here. We’re trying to build the roster. We’ve got to move on with some guys.”
