New Minnesota Vikings general manager Nolan Teasley made his first staffing changes as he looks to implement his roster-building process within the scouting group.

According to Alec Lewis with The Athletic, the Vikings are parting ways with assistant general manager Demitrius Washington, senior personnel executive Jamaal Stephenson, senior college executive Pat Roberts, and pro scout Salli Clavelle.

The moves aren’t terribly surprising.

Demitrius Washington was an Adofo-Mensah hire and had more of an analytics background, rather than a traditional scouting background. It would not be at all surprising if Teasley brings in someone he’s worked with in Seattle to replace Washington, if Teasley decides to keep the two assistant general manager structure.

Both Jamaal Stephenson and Pat Roberts have been with the Vikings going back to the Spielman era with Roberts and before that with Stephenson. Their current positions are somewhat superfluous to the normal structure of having a director of college scouting and director of pro personnel reporting to the director of player personnel. Roberts had previously been the assistant director of college scouting while Stephenson had previously been the co-director of player personnel. I suspect parting ways with these two staffers may be more of a streamlining effort by Teasley.

Lastly, Salli Clavelle was also an Adofo-Mensah hire who previously worked with the 49ers. She had been with the Vikings for four years. I wouldn’t be surprised if Teasley tapped another colleague from Seattle to fill this position.

It’s unclear if the Vikings will part ways with any other staffers in scouting operations, nor who the replacements will be.

At the beginning of June I did a piece looking into the Vikings’ football-related org chart, including a breakdown of the scouting department.

Some of the more senior staffers that remain under Teasley include assistant general manager Ryan Grigson, director of player personnel Ryan Monnens, director of college scouting Mike Sholitan, director of pro personnel Sam DeLuca, and assistant director of player personnel Chisom Opara.

Monnens and Sholitan have been with the Vikings for over 20 years. Grigson, a former general manager with the Colts, has an extensive background in scouting. DeLuca was an Adofo-Mensah hire and has been with the Vikings for just three years after spending ten years in Cleveland in pro scouting.

I would expect some additions to the scouting operations to be announced at some point in the not-too-distant future as Nolan Teasley continues to put his stamp on the scouting department.

Stay tuned.
