Niners Nation
For the first time in nearly a calendar year, the San Francisco 49ers aren’t projected to win a game at Levi’s Stadium. Facing the Los Angeles Rams in Week 10, the Niners enter this game as 3.5-point underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook. The total is set at 50.5, which is the highest projection on the board this week.
The last time the 49ers were underdogs was late last season against the Detroit Lions, when they were all but eliminated from playoff contention.
It should come as no surprise that oddsmakers think we’re in for another high-scoring affair. These two teams totaled 49 points a month ago, and that included a punt on 4th & goal from the two-yard line as well as a fumble going on the goal line.
Since then, the Rams have scored 35 and 34 in two of three games. The 49ers offense scored 34 last week and 26 against the Rams. But it’s the other side of the ball that’s concerning. Tampa Bay scored 30, the Texans 26, and a rookie quarterback 24 last week.
In the same breath, the quality of quarterback hasn’t exactly been MVP-caliber for the Rams. Since they last faced the 49ers, Los Angeles faced Cooper Rush, Trevor Lawrence, and Tyler Shough.
We can expect points on Sunday. The Rams have given up at least 20 points on three occasions this season. You could also say that those are the only offenses they’ve played that had a pulse. This is the same defense that couldn’t stop Kendrick Bourne.
Robert Saleh will have his hands full, especially this time around, without Fred Warner. Last week, Matthew Stafford threw four touchdowns against the blitz and had a 10.8 completion percentage over expected. He looks like an MVP with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams to throw it to.
Will this game come down to whichever team has the ball last again?
