NFL free agency has slowed to a crawl with few rumors about running backs like Chubb, Cam Akers, Gus Edwards

How quickly things change in the NFL. Last year, running backs had a resurgence behind Saquon Barkley’s amazing season after years of a diminished market and downplaying the importance of the position. Given the questions around the Cleveland Browns quarterback room, we have focused a lot on the running game and, likely, minimal pass attempts in HC Kevin Stefanski’s offense:

Yet, in the same vein of “how quickly things change,” Nick Chubb is no longer connected to the Browns potential rushing attack.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, barring something catastrophic, Chubb will not be back in Cleveland, but the Washington Commanders and Chicago Bears are potential landing spots for the free-agent back:

With concerns about running back health and productivity as they age, the free agent market dries up quickly for those who are healthy and relatively young. Rico Dowdle, for example, rushed for over 1,000 yards and caught 39 passes last year with the Dallas Cowboys and was forced to take a one-year, $2.7 million deal from the Carolina Panthers this offseason.

Based on snap percentage played last season, according to Over the Cap, Ameer Abdullah, Jamaal Williams, Cam Akers, Gus Edwards and Chubb are the top backs left in free agency.
