Justine Lindsay, who became the first transgender cheerleader in the history of the National Football League when she was a member of the Carolina Panthers’ cheer team from 2022 to 2025, has implied she was released from the team due to political reasons.
According to Lindsay, despite the Carolina Panthers being the organization to hire her in the first place, she believes that she was cut because she is a trans woman. Lindsay was cut from the team in August, prior to the start of the 2025 season.
It is worth noting that Lindsay’s tenure with the Panthers began during the Joe Biden administration, which is when the country when in a much different political and social climate, which Lindsay alluded to in her comments.
“I was cut because I’m trans. I don’t wanna hear nobody saying ‘She didn’t wanna come back.’ Why the hell would I not wanna come back to an organization that I’ve been a part of for three years,” Lindsay told Gaye Magazine in a livestream.
“I love them down. I appreciate everything that they’ve done for me, but I feel like I was done wrong. It was like a big slap in the face to not only me but for the. And this was right after Trump became president.”
The decision to let Lindsay go certainly tracks with recent behavior from the Panthers organization, as they fired an employee in September for posting about the shooting of Charlie Kirk on his personal Instagram page.
Fox News Digital said that they reached out to the Panthers for comment but did not provide one.
So far this season, the Carolina Panthers have been more competitive than they were last year under then-rookie head coach Dave Canales as they currently sit at 6-6, which puts them just half-a-game behind the 6-5 Tampa Bay Bucs in the NFC South standings.
