Can Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro Saquon Barkley become the first running back in NFL history to have consecutive 2,000 rushing yard seasons? An NFL writer believes there will be another 2,000-yard season, but it won’t come from Barkley.

In his first season with the Eagles, Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards in 2024, becoming the Offensive Player of the Year. He capped off his historic season by winning his first Super Bowl championship.

Barkley could become the first player ever to rush for 2,000 yards in consecutive seasons. However, ESPN NFL writer Eric Karabell believes another running back will accomplish the feat in 2025 — Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry.

“Henry was overshadowed by Barkley, but he was also a stellar fit with his new team, rushing for 1,921 yards,” Karabell writes. “There are differences here. Henry, though older than Barkley, is known for consistency and durability, save for a half-season in 2021. Henry plays little role in the passing game. His volume is more repeatable.”

Henry rushed for 1,921 yards on 325 carries with 16 rushing touchdowns in his first year with the Ravens. Overall, Henry had 344 touches for 2,114 scrimmage yards and 18 total scores.

He previously rushed for 2,027 yards with the Tennessee Titans in 2020, which ranks fifth all-time. If Henry accomplishes the feat, he would become the first running back to rush for 2,000 yards twice.
