Jared Bernhardt will not be playing in the National Football League in 2025.

According to ProFootballTalk, the wide receiver is taking his talents from the NFL to join the Premier Lacrosse League. He spent the last few years split between the NFL and the Canadian Football League (CFL).

With the signing, Denver now rosters four of the last five Tewaaraton Award winners.

After spending the last few years playing professional football, Bernhardt will need time to reacclimate to the highest levels of lacrosse, but he’s undoubtedly one of the most talented players in the league.

Jared Bernhardt is not new to this; he is true to it.

He ended his college career as Maryland’s all-time leader in points (290) and goals (202). He won a national championship as a freshman midfielder in 2017.

In 2021, he led Maryland to a dominant 15-1 season and won the Tewaaraton.

He later transferred to Ferris State to play quarterback. He played decent enough at the Division II school to earn a contract with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2022.

Jared Bernhardt played two games as a rookie in 2022 and announced his retirement after the season.

Jared Bernhardt Speaks Out After Heading Back To Play Lacrosse

Jared Bernhardt is signing with the Denver Outlaws.

Bernhardt, the 2021 Tewaaraton Award winner, once earned an opportunity in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, scoring a touchdown in a preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

He played in the CFL with the BC Lions before ultimately deciding to return to lacrosse this season.

After meeting with multiple teams, the Maryland legend ultimately decided to join the Outlaws.

Speaking to the Baltimore Sun, he said that it felt like “the right move” despite feeling like he’s still at the top of his game as an NFL player.

“Some people may have all the speculation about leaving at the top of your game, but for me, I just feel that was the right move for me,” Bernhardt said via Edward Lee of the Baltimore Sun.

“I wouldn’t change it. As I said, a lot of great experiences, ups and downs, and a lot of good people you meet along the way, and if I didn’t do that, I wouldn’t have had that stuff. So I’m fortunate enough to have been able to go through all of that.”
