NFL Week 16: Seahawks vs. Vikings complete game coverage
Field Gulls Field Gulls

The Seahawks (8-6) almost certainly need to win against the Vikings (12-2) in order to have a decent shot at winning the NFC West over the Rams.

The Seattle Seahawks (8-6) are in virtual must-win territory entering Week 16. Unfortunately, one of the hottest teams in the NFL is rolling into Lumen Field in search of the NFC North title and the No. 1 seed in the conference.

Kevin O’Connell’s Minnesota Vikings are 12-2, winners of seven straight, and boast a very good offense and a great defense that will likely give a struggling Seattle offense fits. Like the Seahawks with the Los Angeles Rams, the Vikings are tied for first in their division but don’t have a tiebreaker after losing at home to the Detroit Lions. However, Minnesota is already in the playoffs and the Seahawks are not. Sam Darnold is having the best year of his career, and it sure helps when he’s got a top set of receiving targets in Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson.

This is the regular season home finale for the Seahawks, who are just 3-5 at Lumen Field this year. It’s been 16 years since their last six-loss season at home. Let’s see if they can end their home slate on a high note... and possibly earn another home game in January?

Last meeting

This is the first time the Seahawks have played the Vikings since 2021, when Kirk Cousins threw two touchdowns and the Vikings won 30-17 in Minneapolis. The last Seahawks vs. Vikings game at Lumen Field was a dramatic 27-26 comeback win for Seattle in the 2020 season.

What’s at stake for the Seahawks?

The Seahawks could be facing Week 17 playoff elimination if they lose and the Los Angeles Rams win against the New York Jets. On the flip side, a Seahawks win and a Rams loss could put Seattle in a potential clinching scenario.

Seattle’s playoff chances are already slim as it is.

Odds

The Seahawks are a 3-point home underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook, with an over/under of 42 points.
