Acme Packing Company
Sunday is a big day in the NFC North, though not as big a day as last Sunday or next Saturday will be. Today, the Green Bay Packers have a chance to maintain their lead in the division with a win over the Denver Broncos or a loss by the Chicago Bears, who host the Cleveland Browns.
A best-case scenario for Green Bay would be both of those results taking place, plus losses by the Los Angeles Rams (at home against the Detroit Lions) and Seattle Seahawks (hosting the Indianapolis Colts). That combination of results would send the Packers not only 1.5 games up on the Bears — which would mean that they would guarantee the division lead after next week’s game, even if they lose to Chicago — but also push them up in to the NFC’s #1 seed.
The Packers and Bears will indeed play each other again next Saturday evening at Soldier Field, potentially with the NFC North lead in the balance once again. But for now, those two teams need to focus on their orange-colored opponents before they return their attentions to one another next week.
Across the NFL, there are a few other exciting games on the schedule, particularly in the early slate. The Bills-Patriots game could end up being a big contest in the AFC East, with Buffalo trying to chase down New England for the division lead. There’s also Chargers-Chiefs, with Kansas City trying to hold on for dear life to their playoff hopes.
