Teams can now wear throwback or alternate uniforms up to four times per season.
The NFL has updated its uniform policy to allow teams to wear throwback or alternate uniforms up to four times in a single season, per Jordan Schultz. This means the New Orleans Saints can pull out a different look for four of their 17 games this season if they choose to do so.
If you’re a fan of the NFL, you should be a fan of this rule change. The NFL (also sometimes known as the No Fun League) is typically pretty strict on what players and teams can and can’t do with their uniforms. This move, though, allows teams to have more freedom with their uniforms and wear alternates more often.
While the Saints may not have a uniform as iconic as the Buccaneers’ Creamsicles or the Eagles’ Kelly Greens or the Seahawks’ throwbacks, they do still have some pretty fire throwbacks. The old gold coloring and fleur-de-lis still look as good as they did back in the day.
The Saints also have their new alternate helmet they debuted a couple years back. There’s been a split reaction from the fanbase, but if they so choose, they can pull the all-white uniforms with the black helmets out a couple times this year, too.
In a time where some fans have been displeased with some of the rules changes the NFL has made, this is one I think we all can agree is a good one.
