Things have already heated up in the NFL trade market. There were three trades just this week, and people are predicting there are a lot more to come ahead of the league’s November 4th trade deadline. The Tennessee Titans could certainly be one of the teams looking to make some moves. They aren’t going anywhere this year, and really need draft capital as they try to bolster the roster for next season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter put out a list of potential trade candidates tonight, and there are six Titans on his list:
That’s an interesting list. Lockett has just seven catches for 52 yards on the season. It doesn’t seem like he would be a hot commodity around the league. The same could be said for both Key and Jones. Those guys could maybe help a team as a fourth EDGE guy, but is a team really going to give up anything to acquire them?
Zeitler could have some value. He’s a solid veteran presence on the interior of the offensive line, so they could maybe get a later day three pick for him.
The most interesting names there are Okonkwo and McCreary. Both guys are in the last year of their rookie deals. They are solid players who could help the Titans over the next few years. I wouldn’t want to see them just give those two away.
Two key names not listed there are WR Calvin Ridley and DT Jeffery Simmons. Ridley would be a little tougher to move with his contract, but could be an impact piece for a contender looking to bolster their offense. Simmons is the guy who would bring the Titans the most value. He’s playing the best football of his career right now. The only question is, will he still be playing at that level in two years when the Titans are really ready to compete? If they think the answer to that question is no, and they can get a first round pick plus another pick for him, they should really consider making that move.
