The Cincinnati Bengals are officially sellers, trading linebacker Logan Wilson to the Dallas Cowboys for a seventh-round draft pick. The move came on the heels of Sunday’s last-second loss to the Chicago Bears that sent the Bengals to 2.5 games behind the Steelers for first place in the AFC North, and there are six teams with better wild card resumes.
The 29-year-old Wilson had formally requested a trade from Cincinnati last month, after seeing his role reduced in the Bengals defense under new coordinator Al Golden.
The Cowboys aren’t in much better shape, falling to 3-5-1 after a Monday Night Football loss to the Arizona Cardinals, but Jerry Jones promised addition, not subtraction at the deadline.
The Baltimore Ravens added to their struggling defense, trading for Tennessee Titans edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones. The Ravens sent a conditional fifth-round pick to Nashville to facilitate the deal.
Jones has 4.5 sacks in nine games with the Titans this season — which could be a significant boost for a Ravens pass rush that has just 11 sacks on the season, tied for 29th in the NFL.
It should be no surprise that the 1-8 Titans are sellers, but also that they may not want to take away from the offensive pieces surrounding first-round quarterback Cam Ward. Trading from the defense makes more sense.
