NFL trade deadline rumors: Cowboys, Browns linked as Jerry Jones, defender create speculation

We are less than 24 hours away from the last major roster milestone of the 2025 NFL season. After the NFL trade deadline passes at 4 PM on Tuesday, a ton of roster moves will still be made, but they will be of the much smaller variety. So far, including a few from the Cleveland Browns, there have been over a dozen trades since the start of the NFL season and there are likely to be a few more.

Rumors have swirled around the Browns roster after their poor start to the season, but DE Myles Garrett seems to be set to stay and Cleveland is reportedly looking to be buyers at the 2026 NFL trade deadline.

According to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the team will also be buyers and has already worked out a deal. Playing on Monday Night Football, Jones refused to share any details on that trade but assured the media it would happen tomorrow:

Interestingly, Browns DT Mike Hall Jr. tweeted shortly before Jones’ statement a message that has now been deleted. The content of that message was simple, as seen below: “Trade…”

The timing of both things has led many to speculate that the Browns may be the team that Jones has negotiated a deal for with Hall, fellow DT Shelby Harris, and S Rayshawn Jenkins all as possibilities.

There is speculation about why Jones is willing to state that there is a trade but not announce the deal:

It is impressive that over four hours later, there have been no leaks about the deal. Either the Cowboys and the other team are tight-lipped, or the trade is far from agreed upon from the other team’s perspective. There is some recent precedent for Jones to believe he has a handshake agreement, only to find out the other side did not, in fact, make said agreement.

The first time ended up costing the Cowboys DE/OLB Micah Parsons. We will see by tomorrow if Jones actually has an agreement or his style of negotiating blows up in his face once again.

If there is a deal unofficially made, news of such will likely leak around the completion of Monday Night Football or early Tuesday morning. Otherwise, the longer we go without a Dallas trade, the more Jones’ declaration on Monday will be called into question.
