After an NFL postseason exit that left a bitter taste, Odafe Oweh wasted no time getting back to work. The Baltimore Ravens linebacker didn’t just tweak his routine, he transformed it.

Oweh packed on 20 pounds of muscle this offseason, pushing his weight from 245 to 265 pounds. The motivation? A playoff performance he felt didn’t measure up and a burning drive to be better.

“I didn’t have the outing I wanted,” Oweh told Ravens.com’s Ryan Mink. “So, as soon as the season was done, I went to Miami, started eating, lifting and then gaining weight, basically.”

Focused On Strength And Impact

Coming off a career-high 10 sacks and 23 quarterback hits last season, Oweh isn’t settling. He knows his role is growing, and he’s meeting it with purpose, on and off the field.

He completely revamped his diet to support the physical changes. “Dry chicken, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus,” he said, describing what he called “nasty meal prep.” The strict nutrition plan helped him hit his weight goal and build a frame better suited for the game’s physical demands.

That added size, Oweh believes, will bring a different edge to his fifth NFL season. “It will help in stopping the run,” he said. “And then obviously, the top of my rush, not being able to be pushed off the point, digging out the rip. And then obviously with power as well.”

Last season, Oweh played a key role in Baltimore’s first-round win over the Steelers, registering three quarterback hits and a sack. But in the divisional loss to the Bills, he managed just one tackle. That performance stayed with him. Now, he’s using it as fuel.

The Ravens exercised Oweh’s fifth-year option in 2024, locking him in for the 2025 season with a salary of roughly $13.3 million. At 26, he’s positioned as a core part of one of the league’s most consistent defenses, which has ranked top 10 in both yards and points allowed for the past three years.

Still, his focus remains simple***. “Obviously, I’m just trying to be the best player for the team,”*** Oweh said. “Every year, I try to get better, try to be better than I was last year.”

For Oweh, the muscle is just part of the story. The mindset is what he hopes will make all the difference.
