The Buffalo Bills haven’t had an NFL rushing leader since O.J. Simpson in the 1970s, but James Cook came one step closer to doing that on Sunday. On Buffalo’s opening drive, he went 67 yards including a 44-yard touchdown. On the run, he moved past Jonathan Taylor for the league lead in rushing yards.

Taylor plays Monday night and will have a chance to retake the lead.

Heading into Week 16, Taylor was averaging 103.1 yards per game and Cook was just behind him at 101.1 yards per game. No other player is within 29 yards of the pair. Taylor entered the week with 1443 yards and Cook sat at 1415.

Cook has the most rushing yards by a Bills running back since 1976, passing 1500 yards in this game.
