The NFL is suggesting teams and league offices take new security measures following last month’s shooting in New York City. Four people died when a gunman visited 345 Park Avenue, which is home to the NFL’s headquarters.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wrote about the proposed changes on Sunday.

“Via Sports Business Journal, TheAthletic.com recently obtained a memo from the league to all teams. The memo recommends three changes to security protocols.

“First, the NFL suggests updated threat assessments at every team and league facility, in order to ensure that any risks are properly ‘identified and mitigated.’

“Second, the NFL suggests the use of armed officers at all team and league facilities, whenever players or staff are present.

“Third, the NFL suggests the teams employ ‘weapons screening’ for anyone who enters a team or league facility, including walk-through magnetometers and X-ray scanners for bags.”

ESPN’s Michael Rothstein also reported on the memo with the suggested changes.

“The Committee recognizes that these changes will affect day-to-day operations and require an investment of time, coordination, and resources,” the memo read, per Rothstein. “However, there is no higher priority than the safety and the sense of security of our players, coaches, staff, and everyone who works in and around our facilities.”

Authorities say Shane Tamura was trying to reach the NFL headquarters but went to the wrong floor in the office building before opening fire.

Rothstein reports the NFL will conduct a review of the new protocols at the next league meeting on Aug. 26.
