The New England Patriots massively bolstered their offense when they acquired AJ Brown in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, his acquisition may force a fellow wide receiver off the roster.
New England has been receiving trade calls on Kayshon Boutte. Following the Brown trade, actually dealing away the receiver becomes even more realistic, via Dan Graziano of ESPN.
“The 2023 sixth-round pick has just one year left on his contract at $3.674 million, and the acquisitions of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs might just make things too crowded in New England’s wide receiver room,” Graziano wrote.
“The Patriots have received calls on Boutte and likely will continue to do so. And as always, unless and until we see a contract extension, we’re justified in wondering whether the player is in the team’s long-term plans,” he continued. “The Raiders and Commanders stand out as two teams that could still use help at wide receiver.”
Alongside Brown, the Patriots also signed Romeo Doubs in free agency and have further weapons like Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams and DeMario Douglas. Ultimately, Boutte’s place in the offense is murky at beast.
That wouldn’t be the case with the Las Vegas Raiders or Washington Commanders. While it may not be Week 1, the Raiders will soon have rookie Francisco Mendoza under center. They need to surround him with as much talent as possible. The same goes for the Commanders as they welcome back Jayden Daniels. Terry McLaurin still remains, but without Deebo Samuel, Washington is in need of some receiving talent as well.
During the 2025 season, Boutte caught 33 passes for 551 yards and six touchdowns. The Raiders or Commanders would gladly welcome that into their offense. And with free agency looming, the Patriots will try to gain some draft capital in return rather than seeing Boutte walk.
