The NFL has released a statement following news of Stefon Diggs’ troubling legal matter.
The New England Patriots wide receiver is facing serious criminal charges stemming from an alleged December 2 incident.
Boston 25 News was the first to report this, citing felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges.
The Patriots released a statement after the news went into circulation.
“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon,” the team said.
“We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”
The NFL has also made a statement on the matter, noting that it has been in contact with the Patriots.
“We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club. We have no further comment at this time,” the league said, per insider Adam Schefter.

One of the player’s attorneys, Michael DiStefano, made a remote appearance on Tuesday in a bid to keep the details confidential. A judge was considering it at the time of writing.
A request to have Diggs’ arraignment pushed back from January 23 to a later date in March is also under consideration.
The AFC Championship Game would be played two days later. And, with the Patriots considered to be among the top Super Bowl favorites, they may very well be involved.
“As we speak, they’re working to come to an agreement on that,” DiStefano said.
Another attorney for Diggs, David Meier, has downplayed the accusations, proclaiming the WR’s innocence.

"Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations. They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur. The timing and motivation for making the… https://t.co/g9xK6IO6j1

Meier told TMZ the accusations stem from a financial disagreement between Diggs and an “employee.
“They are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction,” he said. “Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.”
